Time to do SUMMERsaults because summer is officially in full-swing! Being based in the 305 it’s easy to fall back on Miami Beach as a key Memorial Day Weekend destination, but this year we’re recommending getting a little out of our own comfort zones to see what else can offer up a true American Summer vibe without breaking the bank - while still keeping you close to home.

ISLAMORADA, THE FLORIDA KEYS

Isla

If you’re looking for a short weekend getaway without having to go too far from home, look no further than the Florida Keys. Full of activities for family and friend, it’s an ideal place last minute trip. You can check out the Theater of the Sea, where you can watch dolphin shows, sea lion shows, parrot shows, and much more. Not only that, but you can also enjoy a little one-on-one time in the water with some of our favorite sea creatures like dolphins, sea lions, rays and yes, even sharks! But if you’re looking for a more realistic experience of the ocean, head out and spend a day on the water where you can even book a paddle boarding or kayaking tour. At the end of a long day, treat yourself to a meal al fresco at the Morada Bay Beach Cafe. And because you’re bound to get a little adventurous, be sure to pack the MIA Calla Sneaker Bottom Sandals available in six different colors, allowing you to coordinate with any look; we love the tan ones for that off-duty look but for a more summer statement, opt for a bold red!

FLORIDA SPRINGS

Springs

If you’re looking to get out of Miami without spending a ridiculous amount of money on a flight or theme park admission, head north (of Orlando) and venture over to Wekiwa Springs where you can get a serious dosage of camping, snorkeling, swimming, and biking, along with a plethora of other activities. While you’re there, pop a visit over to the Devil’s Den, which is (literally) a hidden gem of Florida. Renown for scuba diving, the underground spring is located inside a dry cave - a perfect place to learn diving for those of you looking to be a little adventurous. And since you’ll be doing a lot of walking and getting wet, remember to pack the new (waterproof) MIA Jasmine Sandals, comfortable and stylish shoes that you can wear all day. If you don’t like a bold color, opt for a crystal clear version: the MIA Marian which will undoubtedly go with every single one of your swim looks.

HOLLYWOOD BEACH

Boardwalk

Not too far from Miami Beach but close enough for a day trip, head over to Hollywood Beach, a nice family friendly environment where all can have fun in the sun. The main attraction, the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk offers a 2.5 mile boardwalk along the beach dotted with shops and seaside cafes, perfect for a little R&R under the sun; hang out by the seashore, sit at a cafe to eat, or even rent a bike at the many available rentals all along the beach. For family fun, rent a supersized one that allows groups up to 4-6 people so no one will be left out! Whether you’re relaxing on the beach or walking down the boardwalk, do it in style with the MIA Annalise lace-up espadrilles. If you want a casual look, remove the lace-ups for simple, slip-on sandal; for a fancier evening on the water, add back the lace-ups for that extra dress-up factor.

FORT LAUDERDALE

FT Laud

If you’re looking for a little bit more of a scene (outside of Miami), head over to Fort Lauderdale as they offer a plethora of Memorial Day Weekend events like Dog’s, Beaches and Brews, which takes place May 26 from 5-10 p.m, allows you to bring your four-legged friends to enjoy the seashore while socialize with other pooches, while the world famous Parrot Lounge offers a doggie happy hour (need we say more!). On May 26th, hit up the Great American Beach Party where you can soak up live music, participate in a sand castle contest, browse art at the open art market, even take in a free movie screening on the beach. Do it all while showing off your MIA Ellen Sandals, available in eight different colors. Super versatile, they’re a great choice for a busy weekend of fun in the sun. Better yet, they’re available in Kids sizes for a matchy matchy beach look.

ZOOLOGICAL WILDLIFE FOUNDATION

wildlife

If you’re looking to keep things local, take a walk on the wild side by popping over to the Zoological Wildlife Foundation: the only zoo in South Florida with one-on-on animal encounters.  Tours include personal experiences with chimps, owls, sloths, and even jaguars. In addition, you’ll get the change to tour the multi-acre grounds where you can see animals ranging from reptiles, lions, tigers and rare birds. For a picture perfect experience worthy of some serious likes, style the MIA Cameron Sneakers. Super lightweight and ultra comfortable, you’ll leave with some serious instagram-bait.
